Our basic premise: your character has been chosen by a god as their new avatar. They have been transported from someplace a few years off 2020 - 1980 to 2060 - to a medieval fantasy world with elements of various tabletop RPGs and MMOs. There, more or less quickly, they met soldiers of the King, who brought them to a castle to be trained and equipped. They were invited to attend, but if they declined it became clear the invitation was not optional. In general, the people who have collected them from their scattered arrival points were polite, flattering, and uninformative. Your character may or may not have noticed that if they say 'status' or 'menu' (it varies), they can get some data about themselves, including the title "Chosen One." There is no help menu.
Starting questions:
Who is your character?
When and where are they from?
What god chose them as a good match for their avatar?
Why did this god think they would be happy to leave their prior life behind?
We'll cover their backstory from landing in the world to getting to the castle in the next round, if folks join up. No specific system, I'm trying to working out how to write this sort of story. We're going to go for limited pace to avoid this game eating anyone's life.

Kay, or KB, or Katherina Birgitta Kyle-Bornson
From 1992 America, NE
Hestia, which will confuse K for some time.
Kay was in the process of running away from home. Again. Hestia thought this was a good indicator she might want a new home.

Re: LITRPG Forum RP
Probably unsurprisingly, I have questions!
I saw you mention something to Jake about people having different systems; does that mean that essentially every "hero" character is working within their own system? Do the systems have anything to do with the nature and identity of the deity who summoned them (or is that also an individual option)? Did we all get summoned to the same monarchy and/or at the same time relative to the new world?
I also saw something about being transformed, was that part of the isekai or is it a post-isekai process?

it is surprisingly difficult to find good low-res image motifs to put in one's signature these days
Re: LITRPG Forum RP
1. Because I don't have a steady set of mechanics on my end, each character does have their own set of mechanics. In general, levels go from 1-100 (100+ is gods and stuff), your character is level 1 at isekai. Gods are in charge of writing all help and flavor text, though they don't set the math. I am considering an alternate version where you can only check your stats at a temple but *shrug*
2. Everyone in this play group is summoned to this geographic region but that doesn't mean others aren't summoned elsewhere. Weird bits like trackless forests and mountain borders and the middle of the ocean near the coast count as within this geographic region as long as someone from this region finds you, like a scavenger hunt. Once they hit this side, they are all on the same time. Everyone is summoned to the same day - let's call it the autumn equinox - and they trail in to the castle at different times.
3. Transformation occurs post-isekai and is situational/based on the god, but the first stages of the transformation need to occur pretty early in the character arc. So, for instance, you might end up water breathing if summoned in the middle of the ocean, and then as you level up you might go full merperson.
Or your god might just be like 'you're a cat now. You like cats, right?' Which brings me to point 4, which you didn't ask about directly but I forgot earlier.
4. I asked why the gods thought your character would be a good avatar. The god may well be wrong. They are meant to be more along the lines of hilariously fallible Greek gods than any omnipotent god model. It will depend on how thorough the god has been (probably not very), how distracted the god is (probably very), and how tired the god is (also probably very).
And if the god is a bit of an asshole, which, Greek gods. Lyn basically got the only nice one already.

Cortlyn is the 19-year-old slacker son of a power couple in 2045. His father was the district attorney until he was elected as mayor six years ago, and his mother is a corporate attorney and partner at the city's largest law firm. Cortlyn is an unambitious disappointment to them both. He likes video games and programming 3D-printed bots and does not want to be a lawyer or a politician or, particularly, anyone.
He was chosen by the cat deity Miaoux, a genderfluid entity because if you're a cat and a deity why would you feel like you needed to be stuck with one gender? Miaoux thought that Cortlyn would make a good avatar because (a) Cortlyn likes cats and (b) those 3D-printed bots make great cat toys. And since Cortlyn doesn't like college or his parents, surely he'll be happier whisked away from everyone and everything he knows and dumped in a kingdom! Stands to reason. Meow.

Re: LITRPG Forum RP
okay I GOT THIS. Well, I've got about 80% of it.
My character's summoned to be basically a human/soul reaper a la Bleach. What this means is that he has the ability to manifest outside of his body with special magic-and-sword powers. His summoning deity gave him a crest or medallion of some sort with the symbol of said deity on it which he can use to do this. Plot twist: he was, it turns out, plural, and his other personality is his sword now.
He's from vaguely around the present, I don't feel like pinning down a specific date but basically contemporary, and probably somewhere in the US. Let's say Generic College Town, USA. And he's in his late twenties.
I haven't figured out his name yet, or how much more of a transformation he might get/need besides "normal human with two personalities is now a spirit warrior and a sword".
...Having gotten to this point in this write-up and now I'm second guessing my initial decision. Should he be a human/soulreaper? Or should he just be a soul reaper, and thus completely invisible and inaudible to people who don't have sufficient levels in Seeing Ghosts?
Also, I'm still stuck on names and whether or not he/they knew the plurality thing going in or not. I kinda like it if they didn't, especially since that makes the whole "learning the name of your zanpakuto in order to release shikai" element extra interesting, as it takes an element of the zanpakuto having to learn their own name.
Also pt. 2, I've narrowed the summoning god down to "a god of death and/or the underworld", but I can't pick one or decide how to make one up.
***edit: I forgot! Reason why this death god picked him.... I kind of want it to be a really stupid reason, like, he plays a necromancer in a video game or he writes Bleach fanfiction about the afterlife or something like that.

On a practical level, I think he should have either a physical body or the ability to interact with physical objects like a slate and chalk, otherwise he's going to have a hard time interacting with the other low-level characters who will probably not have seeing ghosts right off the bat.senbonzakura wrote: ↑Fri 10 Jul, 2020, 9:30 pm...Having gotten to this point in this write-up and now I'm second guessing my initial decision. Gods don't get direct speaking roles for a while, and I kinda want to make an actual pantheon out of them once we've got 'em sketched out, so lack of details there is fine as long as I know which thematic slots are filled.
PS. I am hoping for group worldbuilding, rather than doing it all myself, because doing it all myself is exhausting.
Re: LITRPG Forum RP
Let me know if any of this is off-base! And some of this is definitely self-insert, obviously >_>
Who is your character?
Jordan Banner, early 30s, enby leaning transmasc (usually assumed she/her by people still), a hostel-surfer who basically gave up on the Internet (and society generally) following a vicious doxxing incident while working as in-game moderator for a popular MMORPG and the death of their cat (not related, thank heavens--but it was very bad timing that both happened at once). Went all around the U.S. on a road trip to visit family and find themselves. Failed to find themselves, and fucked off to Europe with their remaining money; currently jumping from hostel to hostel around Germany, earning peanuts doing distance work on a really beat-up old laptop, touching the Internet as little as possible beyond that. Pretty bitter about everything except the experience of traveling. Carefully not thinking about the future and what happens once money completely runs out.
When and where are they from?
East Coast DC area, because that's all I know well enough to write XD They're from 2020, right at the beginning of COVID, so Germany has been a weird place to be as a semi-tourist. And all the hostels are about to shut down and their laptop just broke. Jordan's looking at potential hostel-lessness and lack of funds.
What god chose them as a good match for their avatar?
I'm thinking a god that's basically a Tolkien-esque fantasy dwarf, but (on the surface, at least) more fun--more like the Egyptian Bes or Volstagg from the Thor comics. Very masculine, the whole massive beard thing, a good day is going out to battle for a just cause with a hammer you smithed yourself and then coming home to do a lot of singing and drinking and telling old stories. Has the power of invisibility, either innate or through artifacts, since this is a thing dwarves in Germanic folklore tend to have. Kind of a two-faces situation -- on the one hand, this god seems very forthright and extroverted and devoted to might for right; on the other, he's very good at going places and learning things that are secret and then storing them away. People who've crossed him have learned that you never know what he might know about you--or what he can take from you or may already have taken without your realizing it. People who've crossed him also tend to disappear, though whether they're dead is an open question...
Why did this god think they would be happy to leave their prior life behind?
One, Jordan's about to be homeless and broke in a foreign country, so hey, medieval fantasy land is probably a step up. Two, part of why they gave up on society following the doxxing incident was it cut off their ability to feel good about roleplaying or MMORPGing playing in general--and they'd put a lot of time and love into expanding the lore on a dwarven character of theirs that isn't all that dissimilar to the god who summons them (minus the sneaky invisibility side of the god's personality/persona). They've also been doing a lot of reading Germanic folklore while they've been traveling, which includes quite a few stories about mountain-dwelling dwarves. Three, they also have always liked the idea of invisibility--it could let you go anywhere you like, see anything you'd like to, and take anything you need. Invisibility is basically the power to stand outside of society but still participate, which is exactly what Jordan wants. Four, they're leaning transmasc and there's a good chance being a dwarven god's avatar means at least getting a killer beard, and the god figures Jordan probably won't complain about that.

Who is your character?
Saren Stork, a 22 year old danish first-year university student in biology. Pronouns he/him.
When and where are they from?
He is 22 years old and attending university in 2054, putting his birth in 2032.
He was born and raised in a city on an artificial island in Skagerrak, the strait between Denmark, Norway and Sweden. The city is named Skagerrak City and is a complete community onto itself, containing everything from industry and food production to commerce and education. Saren Stork is studying at the university near the center of the island, and has never left the island. Despite living a high tech life in a fashionable planned city, Saren is asatrú of faith and participates in blót (symbolically sacrificial ritual) a few times a year with the few other asatrú in Skagerrak City.
(Skagerrak City does not yet exist in our timeline, and is/was founded sometime between 2020 and 2032)
What god chose them as a good match for their avatar?
Saren was chosen by a deity that in our world is called Frey and Freya. While they're in Asatrú believed to be twins and two different gods, they are actually the same singular person (although with varied gender-expressions). Freya is a deity of crops, fertility, cats, pigs, magic, and death.
Why did this god think they would be happy to leave their prior life behind?
In december 2054, Saren was struggling a lot with his exams as a first-year biology student, and at the winter-blót he sacrificed a bottle of mead and a piece of bacon and prayed to Frey to show him the way, and naively promised to serve Frey with his life, if he was freed from the stress and struggle of exams. Frey(a) took this a bit too literally, and vanished him from our world on the spot.
I'm open to change most of this, if need be, but this is my first draft and I like it.

Re: LITRPG Forum RP
Drafts look good. Gods will be given local names and sorted into a pantheon - feel free to come up with local names if you like. The general format is The Green Goddess or The Traveller or The Ferryman.
Who is your character?
Aubrey St Claire, 22, female
When and where are they from?
2012. She was raised by roving ghost hunters - the silly reality TV kind, not the real kind.
What god chose them as a good match for their avatar?
A goddess of luck and games and gamblers, the Lady of Games.
Why did this god think they would be happy to leave their prior life behind?
She'd just been messily disowned.
More Questions:
Where did they wake up?
For example: A forest, a beach, the middle of an ocean, an inn, a crypt.
Did they have to fight something to survive?
For example: A goblin, a mountain lion, a shark, a zombie.
What did they use?
For example: A weapon, a sneak attack, magic.
What else have they discovered about the world?
For example: status menus, race changes, a crafting ability.
Who found them?
For example: a fisherman, an army patrol, a group of adventurers.
What kind of plots do you like?
I like intrigue, slice of life drama, trope subversion. We might also have: a shiny magic thing to find. A big obvious evil to defeat. A sneaky evil to defeat. High fantasy wandering around. Low fantasy staying nearby and being a detective. Crafting. City/civ building. Let me know what ideas you have, what you'd like to see.
(Answers can be narrative format or Q/A! Whatever is fun.)
