Oh man, I try to run buff builds because they're really powerful and have a lot of options but I always mess up eventually. I've only beaten arena twice so far, total.
I've never used a shrimp but Shrimp Scampi is an
amazing nickname XD Sniper is good too! I'm going to start using that term.
Interestingly, I just got beaten by a sniper team and a hedgehog explosion team last night, which is interesting because it's the first time I'd ever seen those as full-team builds. The hedgehog one is terrifying to watch, I love it. They had a blowfish in the back which is what got me.
I run almost exclusively buff builds, and since I've adopted Seal as one of my key units (when I can get it, anyway) I've gotten pretty good at making the whole team pretty strong, even my snipers. It took me ... well, *weeks* before I got a single win in arena, but I played Fall Guys for months and *never* won and still had a good time so I didn't fret about it. Then I gradually started getting the odd win, and now I win more than I lose which is really nice but probably not going to last XD. You will definitely win more and more as you play!
Hedgehog explosions are *wonderful*. I have a friend who that's their main strategy (RNG allowing) and they're really great at it. It's frustrating in versus because it's very hard to counter, especially as they usually take a skunk to counter my buff squad. They so cool and dramatic and they don't require high stats to work.
What's your favourite / ideal squad?
Oh I
love summoner teams. My favorite was a shark food team made from a fly and any other summons I could get my hands on, but they've nerfed the fly a bit (for valid reasons lol, although apparently everyone complained about turkey+fly, not shark+fly) so that one's not as ridiculously powerful any more.
Shark food is probably my favorite to play, because I get the fun of ~INFINITE PET WORKS~ while also getting to watch numbers go up before devouring my opponent. 8) Or, more seriously: the main benefit but also flaw with summoner teams is that they're basically zergs - or, to use a less gaming term, Death By A Thousand Cuts. The summons themselves are rarely very strong, so the aim is to either just have more pets left at the end, or to throw a lot of pets at a big buffed pet to wear down their health while effectively "wasting" their high attack value. This works well a lot of the time but has, like any specialized build, some major weak points: most notably, a rhino can potentially wipe the whole summons fleet all by itself, but the "chip away at your opponent's health" is also a less than ideal strategy when up against a camel, hippo, or roo-buffer.
BUT. If you have a shark, especially a levelled-up shark, you can counter a lot of those strategies by having your own big bad to eat them up at the end. In that case, it eventually just comes down to which of us has a stronger version of our target build.
Let's see, for the rest of the team... Ideally I can lead with a whale deer, then I follow behind it with whatever summons I can get. A fly
is still good if I get one. And if I do get a turkey with a shark food team, it's a bonus so I put it in the back. Unlike a typical turkey summoner team, the shark is more important so it's better to lose the turkey to a croc than the shark.
Spiders are a lot of fun and can make a reasonable substitution with a whale if I don't have a deer, but you have to enjoy throwing yourself at the mercy of the RNG. Sometimes you luck out and get a pet with a battle ability! Aaand other times you get a bunny or snail. My
favorite spider RNG is when I have a summons-based team and the spider pops a sheep. JACKPOT. xD
Also, if I happen to get the combo, a kangaroo right behind a whale+deer is great, and can potentially be as good a buff combo as roo+camel WITH the bonus of free splash damage.
The biggest problem I have re: ability to win is I'm really terrible at judging opportunity costs for when and how to replace pets on my team vs. buying food or spending on rerolls. <.< I'm definitely getting better - I've been getting up to 8 or 9 trophies a lot lately, but most of the time once I get up past turn 13 I start really struggling.
