I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO NEXT??!?!??!! THERE ARE NO MORE LEADS TO PURSUE!!! THERE ISN'T ANY MORE DATA!!!!!!!! WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO HERE?!?!??!?!?!!!! IS MY COMPUTER ENCODING THE NAMES WRONG SO I'M GETTING FALSE NEGATIVES OR AM I MISSING SOMETHING?!?!??!?!?!! AAAAAAARGHlots of specifics about the clues and solutions
so after finding the witness testimony you've got a few clues to go on: a man, over 6ft tall, drove away in a blue Honda, license plate L337 something 9, has 4 memberships
if you grep filter the vehicles file to match the car make, plate, color, and owner height, you get 4 people. of those 4 people, 3 of them lead to "not a suspect" and one leads to "might be a suspect but you have to rule everyone else out first". I was pretty sure this guy wasn't the right one, partly because he has the same name as the criminal in the SQL game and partly because that sounds like a trap to catch people jumping to conclusions, but I tried it anyway when I got stuck and unless my md5 hashing doesn't match theirs, it isn't the answer.
so then I expanded the search by taking out the blue, and again by leaving in the blue but taking out the Honda. of those new options, i found one that would match but was confirmed out of town, two that are "only a suspect if they have a second car", one who knew the victim but has a solid alibi, and one that is a woman and thus is not a suspect "barring a clever disguise".
That last one is who I thought was the murderer at first, but she doesn't have the requisite Library membership. Also, I ran all of those through the solution check after I got stuck earlier and they ALL came up negative.
Earlier I tried filtering all of the memberships to find only people who had all 4 memberships, and all of the new names had addresses without files so I assume they're duds.
I've tried some variations on the license plate too in case there was a trick like the 9 was a 6 or the L was a 1 or the 7 was a T or the plate was seen in a mirror so it was backwards, but those were all completely dead ends.
...HOW DID YOU GET THAT MANY KITTENS TEACH ME YOUR WAYS
