YAY OKAY

So this is absolutely one of my favorite stories. I love the way it opens with a completely trivial puzzle that Holmes is doing for fun, I love how he keeps trying to teach Watson how to do his whole analysis thing, I love how much fun Holmes has with tracking down the criminal and trolling the goose vendor and the way he basically scares the thief into reforming instead of reporting him.

Also,
A few yards off he stopped under a lamp-post and laughed in the hearty, noiseless fashion which was peculiar to him.
This one line is especially dear to me because I have the exact same laugh!!!!

c'mon @thiskurt i've seen you on here a few times, you can find the time to read and have a few lines of an opinion on one short story! you too @Bee!

(and of course anyone else who might be around and wants to jump in on this in the middle here is absolutely welcome)

fiugyrbfendmsa, I HAD ALREADY READ THIS WEEKS AGO just completely forgot to write up any comments

ANYWAY, yes, fun really is the best word to describe this one! :D Fun and overall harmless, and I like that Holmes gets to both use his skills and depend on serendipity? IDK it just highlights the importance of both elements to detective stories, without feeling forced, if that makes sense
