TIL that the original natural lemons, citrons, were massive, but it was mostly a massive rind with very little 'meat' and then we bred it through hybridization with other citrus species to get to the lemons we have today.

This is what a citron looks like: Image

Oh dangit I thought I had replied to this but apparently you can't post telepathically?? @InspectorCaracal please fix this
technically the forum supports telepathic posting but you need to have the hardware interface on your computer for it to work

Dry ice attracts ticks

(photos of many ticks at link, but no closeups) https://bogleech.tumblr.com/post/684918 ... acts-ticks

I mean, it makes sense if you know blood-sucking insects tend to be attracted by CO2 because their targets breathe it out, and dry ice is solid CO2, but I never put it together like that.

Today I learned about Deep Canvas, the art technique Disney used for Tarzan and Treasure Planet(!!!), which involved doing hand-painting over 3D models (condensed explanation - there's more 2D and 3D steps) and explains why the Treasure Planet animation holds up /so well/.

It always blows my mind when something more complex than a simple utility is written in assembly.

TIL that there is a genre of rock called Butt Rock (12 Tone video on it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EChz4nq-1Pk). Well, okay, I saw the thumbnail several days ago, but I actually watched the video today during lunch.
