Nicknames for Super Auto Pets

Post by senbonzakura »

Nicknames! I have a couple combos I made up nicknames for because it's fun which I want to share, but also, what about all of you? I know a couple of you play the game.

Here's mine:

Horse Summoner: horse(s) plus any combination of summon-on-faint pets, and/or bees

Honey Badger: a badger with a honey bee

Shark Food: a summoner team with a shark at (or near) the end

Technically there's "turkey summoner" too, which is basically the evolved version of a horse summoner, but I don't manage to pull that one off often enough to use the nickname very much. >.>

... look, I like playing summoner in this game, even if it does have some glaring weaknesses against e.g. rhinos. <.<

Also omg Honey Badger in the back is SO strong in the early game, but unless you pump up the health it sets you up for failure as soon as you hit a crocodile. If you go up against a lvl 2+ croc with a honey badger at the back you're basically screwed.
it is surprisingly difficult to find good low-res image motifs to put in one's signature these days

I watch a lot of streams of Super Auto Pets so a lot of my vocabulary is inherited tbh! But Honey Badger is what most people call the play of badger with honey at the back. Love that you've done that as well!

I mostly refer to 'builds' like what the team is largely based around.
I don't distinguish between horse and turkey, (although obviously turkey is far better) and I usually call them both Summoner builds, so I like that we have the same terminology for that.

And Sharks with lots of food for them I just call Shark builds, but Shark Food is a really fun name for it, I love that!

Some names I use that I didn't get elsewhere:

Buff Build: Where I have one or two very strong units and lots of support at the back. Almost everything I run is a buff build, since I don't enjoy Summoner builds.

Sniper Build: Where I fill my team with as many ranged units as possible. Croc, Skunk, Dolphin, Leopard, Blowfish. Normally I like to have the Blowfish as the strong unit (since it comes at an earlier tier and snipes with every hurt) but I normally end up with whatever is easiest to make strong early, which is normally not ranged. Oh! Mosquito is now part of this build since they updated it and made it really good at popping melon. I've had a handful of sniper build wins with a Buff Mosquito near the front.

My Hungry Boy: The seal. I love the seal. I always take the seal if I get it early enough. And I feed him up!

Hedgehog Explosion: When you have a squad of mostly hedgehogs and badgers that chain reaction. People who get this build right are honestly amazing to me. I had one flawless win in versus with a handful of friends but haven't gotten it to work for a real win on arena, but some of my friends run it regularly in arena and get wins. My favourite hedgehog explosions involve blowfish that keep that explosion going by adding a firing squad. I love it. And I saw a Badger explosion on a stream once where it was a chain of badgers from front to back that just kept killing each other and also the enemy, and the one at the back had enough health to survive the one that hit it and thus win the round (I think it had melon rather than a bee). Way too cool.

When I ran a dog as my strong unit someone in chat called it 'Clifford the Big Red Dog' and now I can't run a buff dog without calling it a Clifford build.

Some names I've heard others use and which I think are either very funny or in common use:

Hurt build: where you have an elephant hitting things that trigger on hurt eg hitting a camel and a blowfish They're very cool builds but I've personally never got a win with an elephant build, though some of my friends have.

Shrimp Scampi: a streamer I watch calls building your team around buy-sell scaling with shrimp 'Shrimp Scampi' which leads to funny builds like 'Dog shrimp scampi' etc and I dunno, it just gives me a smile. That said I don't highly rate the shrimp, personally!

Oh man, I try to run buff builds because they're really powerful and have a lot of options but I always mess up eventually. I've only beaten arena twice so far, total. :sob:

I've never used a shrimp but Shrimp Scampi is an amazing nickname XD Sniper is good too! I'm going to start using that term.

Interestingly, I just got beaten by a sniper team and a hedgehog explosion team last night, which is interesting because it's the first time I'd ever seen those as full-team builds. The hedgehog one is terrifying to watch, I love it. They had a blowfish in the back which is what got me.

I run almost exclusively buff builds, and since I've adopted Seal as one of my key units (when I can get it, anyway) I've gotten pretty good at making the whole team pretty strong, even my snipers. It took me ... well, *weeks* before I got a single win in arena, but I played Fall Guys for months and *never* won and still had a good time so I didn't fret about it. Then I gradually started getting the odd win, and now I win more than I lose which is really nice but probably not going to last XD. You will definitely win more and more as you play!

Hedgehog explosions are *wonderful*. I have a friend who that's their main strategy (RNG allowing) and they're really great at it. It's frustrating in versus because it's very hard to counter, especially as they usually take a skunk to counter my buff squad. They so cool and dramatic and they don't require high stats to work.

What's your favourite / ideal squad?

Oh I love summoner teams. My favorite was a shark food team made from a fly and any other summons I could get my hands on, but they've nerfed the fly a bit (for valid reasons lol, although apparently everyone complained about turkey+fly, not shark+fly) so that one's not as ridiculously powerful any more.

Shark food is probably my favorite to play, because I get the fun of ~INFINITE PET WORKS~ while also getting to watch numbers go up before devouring my opponent. 8) Or, more seriously: the main benefit but also flaw with summoner teams is that they're basically zergs - or, to use a less gaming term, Death By A Thousand Cuts. The summons themselves are rarely very strong, so the aim is to either just have more pets left at the end, or to throw a lot of pets at a big buffed pet to wear down their health while effectively "wasting" their high attack value. This works well a lot of the time but has, like any specialized build, some major weak points: most notably, a rhino can potentially wipe the whole summons fleet all by itself, but the "chip away at your opponent's health" is also a less than ideal strategy when up against a camel, hippo, or roo-buffer.

BUT. If you have a shark, especially a levelled-up shark, you can counter a lot of those strategies by having your own big bad to eat them up at the end. In that case, it eventually just comes down to which of us has a stronger version of our target build.

Let's see, for the rest of the team... Ideally I can lead with a whale deer, then I follow behind it with whatever summons I can get. A fly is still good if I get one. And if I do get a turkey with a shark food team, it's a bonus so I put it in the back. Unlike a typical turkey summoner team, the shark is more important so it's better to lose the turkey to a croc than the shark.

Spiders are a lot of fun and can make a reasonable substitution with a whale if I don't have a deer, but you have to enjoy throwing yourself at the mercy of the RNG. Sometimes you luck out and get a pet with a battle ability! Aaand other times you get a bunny or snail. My favorite spider RNG is when I have a summons-based team and the spider pops a sheep. JACKPOT. xD

Also, if I happen to get the combo, a kangaroo right behind a whale+deer is great, and can potentially be as good a buff combo as roo+camel WITH the bonus of free splash damage.

The biggest problem I have re: ability to win is I'm really terrible at judging opportunity costs for when and how to replace pets on my team vs. buying food or spending on rerolls. <.< I'm definitely getting better - I've been getting up to 8 or 9 trophies a lot lately, but most of the time once I get up past turn 13 I start really struggling.

See I almost never run summoner builds! They take too long to run so they annoy me when I fight them XD And I have to admit to being someone who enjoys having a croc take out a shark or summoner at the back! Shark-fly-turkey (sometimes just two, sometimes all three) are a very powerful combo for sure, even with the recent nerf to fly, so I'm always worried when they turn up. Although honestly I think fly was only nerfed for shark -- their far increased stats, especially on level-up, means they still run really strong with turkey.

I love a kangaroo though, and often pair it with a camel in the mid-game, though I often just put them behind whatever my buffest unit is. And I absolutely run a deer on and off -- usually as part of my flex slot rather than my final line-up. They're really powerful in the mid-game. I've been toying with the idea of properly levelling on up to 3 though and putting a tiger behind it.

With winning and rounds -- honestly 90% of my wins are before Turn 13. It's much easier to win earlier.

Yesterday was a good example of the rest though. I had a Turn 18 win -- having lost or drawn all my early rounds until I was on 1 life, and then won all the rest. It is much MUCH harder to win on Turn 18. That wasn't the only time I've won that late but it definitely was the latest for a while.

Although at least it's no longer a sea of impossible to defeat Dodo-Rooster combos. Used to be that the only way to be sure of beating dodo rooster in the late-game was to also run dodo rooster. (You could run rhinos and some snipers in the mid-game sometimes to defeat them). Really glad rooster got nerfed as it's really opened up the field.

If you're getting 8/9 regularly then IMO you're gonna be winning very soon. I shall fear to see your Shark Food team in the arena!

Haha, yeah, if you're trying to get through fast then summoners are annoying as heck. xD My favorite part of the game is watching the battles play out, though, so I like it when more things happen.

Shark+whale+deer is such a good combo. I guess after talking it out my ideal dream team would be turkey+shark+fly+whale+deer  especially if I could level up the whale early, since that pops a higher level deer back out.

With that combo, you can get five KOs from the whale and deer, plus the maximum four KOs from the fly, which gives you nine buffs to the shark by the time you get to the shark. Depending on how it was playing out I might put a bee on the whale, too, to grab an extra buff, but while bees are invaluable in early turns, they're pretty high risk in the late game. Getting melon armor on the shark would help a lot, too.

okay I know that this is sort of tangenting into a general SAP thread, which is fine, honestly, but I just saw the most ridiculous thing ever and I have to share it

Can you imagine what it must have taken to get a bee up to almost level 3 like this???

The absolute best part is this bee is kicking my ass! XD
