Now I'm thinking of when I met Cal's sister and she asked for my username and was all, "Oh, that's you?" and I didn't know how to react lmao

I didn't know this happened??? omg what was that about

Honestly, I'd ask her but I am as close to 100% sure as is humanely possible that she would have absolutely no idea or memory of the exchange and what she was thinking.

lmao yeah no we were just chatting and Twitter came up and I guess she recognized my username (I mean, we talked way too much on Twitter lmao)

literally nothing came out of that convo, I was just startled because pretty much nobody else I knew let their relatives anywhere near their non-FB/orkut accounts lol

Yeahhh, it was the only public account I had so I told my mom out of desperation to keep her from constantly calling me to make sure I was alive because I suck at keeping in touch with people. Like, I literally was like, "here is my twitter account, if I have posted on here recently then I am fine and everything is fine". I was on pretty good terms with my sister though so it was fine. (I mean, I still am, but, less relevant now lol)

I met Cal's sister by driving her to Cal's/her parents' house.

So what do you like about forums besides the nostalgia factor?
I like that, compared to most contemporary social media, they're slower and let you write more stuff and are easier to browse by categories and aren't constantly throwing new tiny updates from billions of people at you all in one place all the time, as a brief overview. They're a pleasant sort of fusion between chat communities, writing letters, and reading/writing blogs. (which, yeah, I know, forums predate blogs)

It's actually not so much the nostalgia factor for me at all as the forum structure and functionality in particular fills an experiential niche in internet communications that nothing else has moved in to fill, people just prioritize things like speed of updates and short posts more at the moment.
This is still true even if we’ve mostly underutilized this forum tbh. But tbf the past year has been rough on everyone.
