Okay I'm going to reply properly later when I have a moment to sit down, but a) thank you!!!!! and b) you can share any of the TTRPG content with anyone you are personally playing games with. I think I even made it explicit on the copyright page.

So go forth and make whatever! I am hype!

Proper response later, eee!
No rush, I'll look forward to it 8)

I figured I should ask for specific permission 'cause a forum is pretty different from giving people hand-outs at a table. Even if I put it in Planet Chat, technically anyone who's signed up on the forum can download them, not just people who're thinking of playing the game. And you're right here so I can ask for permission lol

I can't remember but I've heard of that die-during-creation one too lmfao I remember being like "i am not hardcore enough for this".

Burning Wheel isn't super crunchy, I think, since it's the system Mouseguard was based on and I'd put it maybe at Medium Crunchy; the basics are simple, just dice pools and checkboxes, but it does have a bunch of stuff to track on your sheet. (My main thing against it is it's got the "pile of dice" effect that a lot of d6-based systems get. But it does have one of my fave TTRPG mechanics, tho, which makes failures not only count towards advancement but required.)

honestly I use D&D 3.5e as my base reference for crunchy games, lmao. I mean, here's the info for one of the basic core classes for an example.

edit: Another pro to your creature kit: it applies just as tidily to making NPCs, which is a thing ALL games make you do
Ah okay, I just pulled a name from a hat on this one since I have never played that and I can't remember the specific one he referenced (he has played A LOT of TTRPGs ...)

3.5e was the TTRPG I had a book of as a teenager and desperately wished I had someone to play it with! I think it's why I got on pretty well with Pathfinder 1e. That said ... yeah, it's horribly unfriendly to new players and I don't ask to run it these days. XD And I couldn't understand it just by reading the book like ... at all ... but I sure wanted to!

Also: hehe yay! That was the plan. It's supposed to work for NPCs. One of the example 'creatures' is just a mage.

(also since I haven't mentioned it yet: your starter adventure is amazing. Like. It's so well put-together??!! It's got a smooth narrative flow, thought-out NPCs with helpful tips on what info they might share and their attitudes, tidily organized details for non-linear play, and showcases multiple different mechanics and styles of play in a clear-cut progression so new players and GMs can familiarize themselves with the whole breadth of the game's possibilities in just one adventure. I'm in AWE.)

(p.s. I'm making my own adventure for the forum, not spoilering yours, don't worry, I'm just referencing yours a lot because IT'S SO WELL DONE)
AHHH You like my adventure!!!!! AHHH!!! I haven't heard from anyone about it yet and I didn't get to have it playtested by others like I did with the rulebook. I just planned and ran the session and tweaked a little based on where my players did unexpected things. I'm so so glad you like it! I really wanted it to be a good adventure for beginners and I *hate* linear progression so this has just made me the happiest ever eeek! I've got a concept for another adventure I'd like to write which involves wrangling and caring for angry extraplanar monsters and protecting them from poachers.

I really had no idea whether it would be well-laid out or not, I just structured it the way I structure my home games but far FAR more formally and with more explanation and detail. So I'm delighted you like it!

Ahhhhh ... no that's true. I'd say I'd prefer it on the Planet forum as I don't mind if people who've signed up have access, and while I might prefer the rulebook not to be uploaded here, any of the quick refs, character sheets, maps etc are totally fine. With those supplemental things are okay to go on public chat though if that's the plan!

Do share out the rulebook though (just maybe via email or something). But honestly if you're like 'I don't have a good way to share the rulebook' like ... as long as it's on the planet chat and not public it's not too big a deal.

Thanks for asking! (and for explaining, I was in-between respawns when I read it so I wasn't taking it in properly!)

Oh yeah, and I'm gonna try to make editable PDFs of the character sheets but I haven't had a minute to look into it yet. I always used to use Open Office to do editable PDFs but I built it in MS Word which might slow me down until I find a tool. I'm sure I'll have em soon anyway.

FWIW, it should be possible to create a private forum for a usergroup? So maybe you could have the materials there but play the game less privately, if that's something you'd want to do

Oh, and I think you can share documents on Google Drive but block downloads, too.

I mean assuming it's not too big to attach anyway, I could just attach it to a PM. Or stick it on my webserver and toss them a link and then delete it in an hour or something, I got lots of options for individual filesharing.

And thanks for the answer, V!

I was trying to point out options to minimize piracy concerns without inconveniencing people, not just share the files

Yeah, I know, that's why I mentioned the PM first.

Ah yay! It's the one scene I desperately wish I could use to promote the book but I don't want to spoil it so I don't!

no joke I was very skeptical about their desire to live in the fantasy world and then that scene happened

I finished reading a couple days ago! I just haven't been able to verbalize my thoughts on it, lol (rest assured, I loved it xD)
