what's a topic

Post by katrani »

I swear I've been wanting to talk about stuff in a more-long-form setting for a *while* but as soon as I get here everything just flies out of my head. Hopefully I'll remember them in a timely fashion. In the meantime, what's everyone else looking forward to having discussions about??? Cause we might as well be meta right away and talk about talking lol.

Things I've been meaning to talk to the planet about longform, in no particular order:
* Writing
* How to make a really good education system
* Politics
* Finances maybe

I'd love to read and talk about people's various projects.

I'm not sure if it's too much with a whole thread per project, but it'd be a cool way to be able to keep up with various projects y'all have, without bugging people on microblogging all the time.

Also, I love the oldschoolness of phpbb emoticons.

I don't have anything like a specific wishlist of stuff I'm planning on posting about, but some of the stuff I think would be fun to do in a more longform environment like here is: Media Discussions. We keep getting into these interesting conversations about books and TV and stuff which feel super limited by the microblogging format and I'm looking forward to something coming up and talking about it over here where we actually have space and time.

.....that sounded way more existential/Dr Who than I intended lmfao

I don't think it's too much to do a whole thread per project unless you're gonna make a thread for every single project you're considering working on maybe once a year or something ;P

Oh, the big discussion about problematic relationships and themes in books we love by authors we admire (or authors we don't admire) would have been great in longform format.

Someone could make a general projects thread, and each person's first post could be an overview of stuff they've got? Edit functionality means the starting post could link to *those* posts and people could easily edit in whatever's been updated recently! I've seen similar on other forums at least.

But Kat that's so structured, everyone will be too intimidated by the fear of Posting Wrongly to ever participate.

(I'm only like... half joking. lol.)

I guess what I'm getting at is like, we don't need to agree on The Way To Post About Projects (TM), it's not like this is a professional board or a big enough community that we gotta be efficient about topics so we don't clutter up the boards. I've seen too many ideas for this kinda thing that die a sad and withering death 'cause everyone (cough, me) was too hung up on figuring out the best/right way to organize and structure and arrange things and what the Efficient Rules should be and like. none of that's necessary tbh.

A general projects thread to post updates about stuff is good, but having dedicated threads to individual large projects you're working on is also good, and probably whatever else anyone thinks might be a fun way to talk about projects? that's good too. we can do all of 'em. THE SKY'S THE LIMIT

lol are you me--wait

More seriously, though, I think it would be nice to talk about productivity tools and mental illness here, because
Spoiler
that's one project we're never going to do anything with lmao
that's something we've all talked about over the last several years, but definitely gets lost in the deluge of fedi posts.
