Recommend stories!

Post by Bee »

Last week I read P. Djeli Clark's A Dead Djinn in Cairo and loved it! Basically steampunk and magic in Egypt, AND there's now a novel(la?) too, which I hope to read soon-ish.

I also feel like many of you might enjoy Johanna Sinisalo's The Core of the Sun? I had a few issues with it, but by the end, I was so impressed with how well she sells the idea of capsaicin as a dangerous drug, I had to give the book 5 stars, lol. And then bought another of her novels, Troll (but I haven't read it yet).

The 2021 World SF bundle is out!
It ends in 21 days, so... the end of March?

This year there are only two translations: a cult, Mexican "reimagining of Dracula's voyage to England, filled with Gothic imagery and queer desire," and a Israeli detective story.

Here's the full list (15 USD):
  • Simantov by Asaf Ashery, Translated by Marganit Weinberger-Rotman
  • Ivory's Story by Eugen Bacon
  • Lion City by Ng Yi-Sheng
  • Beneath the Rising by Premee Mohamed
  • The Citadel of Weeping Pearls by Aliette de Bodard
  • Food of the Godsby Cassandra Khaw
  • The Route of Ice and Salt by José Luis Zárate translated by David Bowles
  • Insects Are Just Like You and Me except Some of Them Have Wings by Kuzhali
    Manickavel
  • The Lunacy Commission by Lavie Tidhar *(StoryBundle Exclusive)*
  • The House of Discarded Dreams by Ekaterina Sedia

Oh, HumbleBundle has a "supermassive" SFF/Horror bundle too. 47 books for 28 USD o.o
It expires in 13 days.

So I've been extremely in the mood for fiction focused on problem-solving and found this thread on reddit. I like that they're calling it engineering fiction because that's what it is, really.

"Oh, a manga!" I thought. "I'll see what it's like while GW2 loads up," I thought.

HALF AN HOUR LATER I'M BARELY NOT CRYING

Cal Cal Cal Cal I just heard about this anime and I think you need it in your life. The Case Study of Vanitas (a Mochizuki Jun manga! aka the Pandora Hearts mangaka!) is getting an anime adaptation with Yuki Kajiura music and Studio Bones animating and uh seiyuu you probably know that I don't, and also it's vampire bishounen!!! I think the US/subtitle release is on Hulu.
